TRUSTEES ON BOARD OF CITIZENS GUARDIANS

The Board of Trustees consists of the following members:

(i) Founder Chairman - Mr.V.Ravichandran, Aged 42 years
(ii) Trustee - Mr.S.Sreekumar, Aged 32 years
(iii) Trustee - Mr.V.Thiagarajan, Aged 52 years.

Even before the formation of CITIZENS GUARDIANS, Mr.V.Ravichandran Founder Chairman in his personal capacity had achieved many laurels/appreciation on the following matters:

1. As Secretary of Residents Welfare Association contributed to the development of the Streets where he has lived, neighbouring avenues and his locality.

Attended regularly grievances meeting conducted by rganizations like Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, CMWSSB (Metrowater), Corporation of Chennai, Police Dept. Chennai, and other Government Depts and was able to get redressal of problems whenever required.

2. Was an active member of Ashok Nagar Citizens’ Council.
Presently a coordinator of the federation of the residents welfare association in Chennai.

3. Sri V.Ravichandran in his personal capacity had through a public interest litigation (PIL) retrieved from encroachers an area of 14 grounds & 1076 sq.ft of land worth Rs.50 crores (near Ashok Pillar at the tri junction of 1, 4th Avenues and 48th Street, Ashok Nagar, Chennai -83) belonging to Corporation of Chennai and earmarked for a public park vide WAMP Nos.3289 & 3290 of 2005 dated 20.09.2005 of WA’s 2215, 2216, 2230/01.

The Hon’ble Madras High Court passed favourable orders on 21st April 2006.

The Corporation of Chennai has developed this place into a beautiful park and it is being used by children, women and senior Citizens from Ashok Nagar and neighbouring areas in a big way.

But for the personal efforts and a PIL of Sri V.Ravichandran such a beautiful park would not have sprung / come up.

4. Sri V.Ravichandran had also filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) (WP No.4950/2007) in the Madras High Court in Feb. 2007 in the matter of construction of flats by a private building promoter/ occupation by slum dwellers on the area (100 grounds) in Ashok Nagar /K.K.Nagar, Chennai worth Rs.500 Crores which was earmarked for a Govt. Peripheral Hospital and its expansion.

The Hon’ble Madras High Court had passed favourable orders on 5.10.2007 for the take over of the building from the private promoter and the other areas by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu for the construction of a Govt.General Hospital.

Against this order of the Madras High Court the promoter has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court of India and the case is pending.

This case is being pursued with the fond hope of retrieving this place as a TRAUMA CARE HOSPITAL. This would benefit the entire south western Chennai as there is a no multi specialty GH in this area.

AREAS TO BENEFIT

Ashok Nagar, K.K.Nagar, West K.K.Nagar, M.G.R. Nagar, Nesapakkam, Ramapuram, Manapakkam, Porur, Guindy, Ekkattuthangal, Saidapet, Jafferkhanpet, West Mambalam, T.Nagar, Rangarajapuram, Kodambakkam, Choolaimedu, Koyambedu, Vadapalani, Saligramam, Virugambakkam, Chinmya Nagar, Valasaravakkam, Alapakkam etc.,

As it is the Poor, Low/Middle Income group people from these areas do not have easy access to a multi specialty Govt. Hospital and Trauma Care Hospital.

The nearest General Hospital is Royapettah / Park Town which is almost 8 to 15 kms away from all these areas.

So far, all the above activities were all carried out in public interest by Sri V.Ravichandran.

5. With the coordination and able guidance of Sri V.Ravichandran, Mr.R.Krishna a resident of 65th Street, 12th Avenue, Ashok Nagar, filed a Public Interest Litigation W.P. No.760/2007 in the Madras High Court for 10 ½ grounds (in 65th Street, 12th Avenue, Ashok Nagar, bordering R.V.Nagar, Jafferkhanpet, Saidapet and worth Rs.30 Crores) under encroachment belonging to Corporation of Chennai and earmarked for children play space / park and favourable orders were obtained on 24th June 2008.

The Corporation of Chennai has started to develop this children’s plays space.

The above achievements have been reported in an elaborate way in leading English (The Hindu, The Indian Express, Times of India, Deccan Chronicle) / Vernacular (Dinamalar, Dina Thanthi, Dinakaran, Dinamani)/ Neighbourhood Newspapers & Journals (Ananda Vikatan, Kumudam Reporter).
